Honorable Mention Award

Cierra Hall (Flutist, 2022)

In 2022, the Pierians Foundation Incorporated gave their first-ever Honorable Mention Award due to the overwhelming number of exceptionally talented applicants that were met during the nomination and application process.  This year’s Honorable Mention Award was awarded to flutist, Cierra Hall who began her musical studies in elementary school band class. Cierra attended the Baltimore School for the Arts where she was able to study classical music. As a high school student, she was selected to perform the Thom Ritter George Concerto with her school’s Wind Symphony. In 2017, Cierra won the Baltimore School for the Arts Concerto Competition and performed the Lowell Liebermann Flute Concerto with the Symphony Orchestra. As a member of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, she has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. At the age of 15, Cierra received the Patapsco River (Maryland) Women in the Arts Award.   

 

Cierra received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Linda Chesis. In New York City, Cierra served as principal flutist of the New York Youth Symphony and performed a variety of orchestral repertoires in Carnegie Hall. In 2020, she was the recipient of the Vetter -Vargas/Ukena fellowship, which awarded her $5,000 toward her musical studies.

 

In 2021, she was a winner of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition. Cierra will begin her graduate studies at the University of Miami under the tutelage of Dr. Jennifer Grim. She will be a Henry Mancini Institute fellow with a full-tuition scholarship.
